So.. has anyone purchased travel insurance through the insurance company mentioned above? (The Atlas Travel Series through HCCMIS)

I just got to Europe yesterday and had planned to get the insurance before I left. 20min on hold on the phone... twice..with never talking to anyone. An online forum that always gave me an error code. Multiple unanswered emails and no returned phone calls from voice mails left on Brandis extension. Are these guys legit?

The Sport Rider does seem like a great thing for us and I was quoted $202.50 for a 90 day policy with a $0 deductible and $500,000 of coverage. (This was before the registration forum shit the bed that is). This was including the Sports Rider option. I just feel like something is amiss... getting a sketchy vibe.

Okay.. Update..

I did some more digging and seems that they are good to go. For some reason my mac (Using Safari) would not let me go completely through their quote system. So I used a PC and was able to easily navigate through the quote and get the insurance.

I emailed them so that I could have in writing that the "Sports Rider" did cover Snowboarding, Skydiving, Paragliding, and BASE jumping. I got a 100% confirmation from them that indeed the sports rider did cover all the above listed sports.

I paid $187.50 for a 90 day policy with $500,000 of coverage and a $0 deductible. I received an Email with an attached .PDF file with all my paperwork and a "card" to carry with me.

So.... if I eat shit in the next few months and have to use them I'll be sure to post up a response. Seems like we have an option... for now..

Here is how I phrased my question to them..

In the email to them:
"I also want to confirm that parachuting sports (Skydiving, BASE jumping, Paragliding) are covered in the Sports Rider option. I read the the explanation and just wanted to double check that these activities are covered on a non-professional level."

Response:
"Indeed, if you include the "Sports Rider" on your policy, you will gain benefits for injuries resulted from parachuting sports like skydiving, base jumping, paragliding, etc -- no worries there! :)"

I assume it was just a miscommunication with wording and the other person did not know what BASE jumping is.

...but I guess it's a good thing they don't know i'm pretty much one of the most professional jumpers ever.

I just got 38 days cover for a European trip.
I am from the UK, travelling to Europe and live in NZ.
I am covered as soon as i leave NZ, which is classed as my home country, and until i return to NZ.
I believe im also covered whilst incidentally in my country of citizenship (im flying via London) as it is not my "home". They classify your home as where you live and receive mail.
That point might be of interest to other people who are planning a BASE trip to their country of citizenship whilst usually living outside of it.
I chose $1,000,000 coverage (Hope i don't need it!) cos it was a couple of dollars difference. And also chose the $0 excess. I paid $88 which seems very reasonable to me, but i don't have any previous experience with buying BASE insurance.
I'll post if i end up using them too and would be interested to hear if anyone else does. Fingers crossed none of us will!

Reading the website benefits page over a few times.... it does sound Ok for coverage for BASE however... as long as your not doing BASE with a club or for $$ or as they wrote " reward" ....so...if you are jumping at Kjerag..isn't Kjerag considered a club?
cant they fuck you for that?
Legally,I know this shit all boils down to wording and so I'm just asking.

Also, if I'm reading this correctly...basically, as long as your doing BASE on your own...you're Ok...but, if you on a tour or in a comp such as KL or Pro BASE tour..or WBR...isn't that competition and...doesn't it have the possibility for reward as in trophy or $$...doesn't that make you in eligible?
Is anyone else reading this the same way?

Again, I'm not saying this wont cover BASE, I just think
...they could possibly fuck you if you're tied into any of the tours or comps or.. "clubs" ?

Any one else with a thought on this?

I would imagine alot of people will be thinking there covered when in fact they maybe are not.?

It is confusing to me too. I asked them and received this back:

Thank you for considering HCC Medical Insurance Services to provide your international medical coverage. With a sports rider attached to your Atlas policy, you can have coverage for injuries related to extreme sports, such as base jumping, as long as you’re legally doing the activity and you’re not receiving any wage, reward, or profit from the activity. The Accidental Death and Dismemberment provision is deleted during participation in sport activities.

After another question about the "accidental death and...deleted during participation in sport activities" I received this:

If you were to die or have a dismemberment during the base jump there would be no compensation for the death ( $25,000 ) or for the loss of limbs ( $12,500 - $25,000 ). It would cover you for medical expenses related to injuries.

So that clears it up for me. I might go with this company, I might not. For now I'm still looking around.

If you're taking a USA base trip be ready to jump stuff illegally. Obviously there are sites that are legal to jump, but not many.....nothing like Europe. Just somethin' to keep in mind.

typically, a lot will depend on the laws of the country that governs the insurance. I'm betting Kiwi, British, and US interpretations differ, and legal definitions of words vary.

but practically speaking, does anyone have a better option?

the key, as always, is to NOT need it. companies tend to stop offering a product when they can't make money...

Hey guys,

Just got them to send me there stuff forms etc,

Looks like for the extra 20 percent they will sponsor for base but only for an injury and only up to a maximum of 10-15 grand... so thats very minor but atleast its something..

If you take the sports rider you wipe all accidental death payments,

and will no be covered for death just if you have any injuries totally to 15 grand... which i am sure would be about a broken leg..!!!
